Team History
The Portland Trail Blazers are a 1970 NBA expansion team. If the team gets past the First Round they are hell on wheels, winning three of the four Conference Finals they have competed in over the past 38 years. Their one NBA championship came in 1977, when big man Bill Walton was at his young peak. That year the team began a sellout streak of 814 straight games. The streak did not end until 1995.
In the 7 playoff seasons from 1997 to 2002 the Trail Blazers lost five playoff series to the Los Angeles Lakers. In 2003 the Dallas Mavericks beat Portland in the First Round. It would be the team’s last playoff appearance until the next one. The 2004-03 season marked the end of a 21 consecutive seasons streak of Portland playoff appearances. The team has not been back in the playoffs since.
After going 41-41 in 2003-2004 and missing the playoffs for the first time in over twenty years, the team lost 55 games in 2005, 61 games in 2006 and 51 games in 2007, the worst showing in the league over that 3 year time frame. In the 2007-2008 season the team, in response to a very active team building effort by the Trail Blazer front office, began to climb back to respectability, winning at a .500 clip for the first time since they started missing the playoffs in 2004.
2008-2009
The Blazers won the 2007 NBA Draft Lottery and made Ohio State center Greg Oden the first pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He suffered a pre-season knee injury and missed the 2007–08 season. The Blazers nevertheless improved by 9 games to become the franchise’s first .500 team since 2003-04.
This is the year the Trail Blazers make it back to the playoffs. And Awesomeseating, your trusted ticket broker, has cheap Portland Trail Blazer tickets, right through the 2009 NBA Playoffs. After Ogden went down in the 2007 pre-season, Portland had a chance to jell as a team without the burden of high expectations. And the team came through with the organization’s best effort in several seasons. Ogden comes back in 2008-09 to a vastly improved team over the one he nearly joined last season. That can’t be a bad thing for either party.
The Portland Trail Blazers are in the Pacific Division of the 3-division Western Conference of the National Basketball Association.
