Team History
The Detroit Pistons basketball franchise was founded as the Zollner Pistons in 1943, the darkest days of World War II, by Fred Zoller, owner of the Zollner Corporation, a foundry that manufactured pistons. After the war the team changed its name to the Fort Wayne Pistons and joined the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which merged with the rival National Basket Ball League to form the National Basketball Association, the NBA, in 1949. The Pistons enjoyed a solid fan base in Fort Wayne, but as the popularity of pro ball soared it became clear the team could fill the larger arenas of the big cities. Zollner moved the team to Detroit in 1957. . The new Detroit Pistons played in Olympia Stadium, home to the NHL’s Detroit Red Wingsfranchise. In 1961 the Pistons moved to Cobo Arena.
Over the course of the team’s 65 year history it has won 15 division titles, 7 Conference titles and 3 NBA Championships. The team has made the playoffs 44 times.

The Pistons opened the 2006-07 NBA Playoffs with a 4–0 sweep of the Orlando Magic and beat the Bulls in six in the Semifinals. But the Cleveland Cavaliers dropped them in 6 in the Central Division Finals. In 2007-08 the team went 59-23. They eliminated the Philadelphia 76ers in the First Round in six and the Orlando Magic in the semifinals in five before falling in six to the eventual champs, the Boston Celtics.
2008-2009
