The Toronto Blue Jays entered Major League Baseball in 1977 as part of a two-team American League expansion that included the Seattle Mariners. Following the 2008 regular season it was announced that Paul Beeston, former Blue Jay president and CEO, would assist in the daily operations for the ball club after current Paul Godfrey steps down as president and CEO at the end of the 2008 calendar year.
